On the evenings of August 16th and 23rd, Eastern Bridge Works installed 20,400 square feet of Bridge Preservation™ Bridge Deck Membrane (BDM) and aggregated Top Coat spray applied waterproofing for highway bridges on the eastbound and westbound I-84 bridges over Route 9.  Due to delays (typical on many construction projects), Eastern Bridge Works was only able to install 6,400 square feet of spray applied waterproofing for highway bridges on the eastbound bridge the first evening, which in turn, caused delays in the paving schedule.  However, the Top Coat’s unique ability to act as a temporary driving surface allowed the bridge to be opened to normal traffic one hour after it was installed.  This made it possible for all three lanes to be open the entire week until the remaining 14,000 square feet of waterproofing could be installed on August 23rd.

The installation began by removing all loose dirt and debris, followed by shot blasting.  Concrete Primer was applied using squeegees and allowed to completely cure for approximately 20 minutes before application of BDM™ spray applied waterproofing for highway bridges.  Aggregated Top Coat was applied immediately following the application of the base spray applied membrane.

Bridge Preservation™ Top Coat is the only spray applied waterproofing for highway bridges that can be used as a temporary driving surface for up to two weeks, even on bridges with high daily traffic counts, such as the eastbound and westbound I-84 bridges, which typically receive traffic counts of 50,000 to 60,000 vehicles per day.  This unique feature gives owners and contractors additional staging flexibility than competing spray applied waterproofing manufacturers can’t deliver.
