CHOOSING THE RIGHT PRODUCT FOR YOUR APPLICATION

MEMBRANE PROTECTION

The primary function of a protection layer is to protect the underlying membrane from damage that can occur from construction activities, ballast rock, or maintenance activities such as tamping.  These protection layers are highly durable and offer additional waterproofing protection, but do not offer vibration or noise reduction properties.

Bridge Preservation™ Integrated Ballast Mat and Sloped Ballast Mat are considered membrane protection layers.

VIBRATION & NOISE REDUCTION

The primary function of a vibration isolation layer such as an Under Ballast Mat is to reduce noise & vibration caused by railway vehicles, as well as reduce the degradation of ballast and reduce the track stiffness in transition zones.

DAMTEC® SBM K Under Ballast MatsMSS K Mass Spring Systems, and STM Full-Surface Bearings for Track Slabs are considered vibration isolation layers.
